George Wintston
Jones
April 13, 1956 – June 17, 2019
On the morning of June 17th George Wintston Jones upon hearing his name called climbed the stairway to heaven peacefully in his sleep. Leaving on his own terms he spent his final day with all of his children and those who meant the most to him. God gave his acknowledgement that indeed he had a marvelous day and it was time to come home.
George was born April 13, 1956 in Lynchburg, Virginia to the Late Winston R Jones and Georgia S. Jones. He is the eldest of six children who took his role of brother seriously. The unbreakable bond that was shared between him and his siblings is undeniable. No one messed with the Jones' children..
He attended E. C. Glass, but graduated from Amherst County High School. He graduated from Phillips Business School with an Associate Degree in Business. George proudly served in U S. Army and he was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan. He also loved the peace and serenity that fishing brought him. But what he loved more than anything else was his kids and grandkids. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church South Lynchburg and later in life he joined Jordan Baptist Church. George left a legacy of love behind.
He is preceded in death by his parents the late Reverend Winston R Jones and his mother Georgia S. Jones and his baby brother Timothy Maurice Jones, his maternal grandparents, George W. Scruggs and Elenora Kinney Scruggs Megginson, his paternal grandparents the Late Reverend Ashby Jones and Elsie Elliott Jones and his brother-in-law Alphonso "Junie" C. Ferguson Sr.
He leaves behind his beloved children and grandchildren, Zakiya(Malachi and Zakyrah), Jazmin(Naima) KaTara and Wadishia(Jarius); his sister Gwendolyn L.M. Jones (Georgia-Adrian and Patrick(Kendra, Kendrick, Christian, and Kalani); Sabra D Jones(Sabrina, Aryanna and Elonte'), Rev. R. Stuart Jones( Clara- Timothy) and Desiree' "Micky" Ferguson( Tasha and Alphonso "Jermaine"- Nina, Alphonso III, Preston); his great aunt Delores K. Banks(Thurman); his Aunts Ora McCoy-Edward; Rosa Cheatham(Leroy- Elvis, Tony,Gerald & Sherry ) Rita Brown, and one uncle Fredrick Jones; and his children at heart La Toya Nouwamey, Tyanna Robey, Marcus Robey; his love of his life Rebecca Johnson and her children; ex- wife Edwina Wilson whom he remained close and his devoted friend Crystal Johnson whom he shared his baby girl; devoted friends Shirley and Tony Jaminson and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Jordan Baptist Church, Appomattox with Rev. Stuart Jones, officiating. The interment will be in the Scruggs Family Cemetery. The family will receiving friends Saturday at Davis-Turner Funeral Service from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
