IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geneva Colmore
Lewis
March 20, 1935 – March 1, 2025
Geneva Colmore Lewis of Madison Heights, VA, peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Lynchburg, VA. She was born on March 20, 1935, to the late Leonard A. and Frances S. Colmore.
Geneva is lovingly survived by her devoted siblings: sisters, Shelva Eubank of Forest, VA, and Loretta West of Lynchburg, VA; and brothers, Leonard Colmore, Jr. (Hazel) of Forest, VA, and Nyal L. Colmore of Madison Heights, VA. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Cecil W. Lewis; her sister, Delores Davis; her cherished grandson, Quinton Lewis; and her great-grandchildren, Josiah Davis and Qui'Vonna Lewis.
On May 20, 1955, Geneva entered into holy matrimony with her beloved husband, Reverend Charles Lewis, and together they built a home filled with love, faith, and unwavering commitment. Their love was everlasting, and they shared a blessed 69 years of marriage. Through their union, they raised seven children: Carolyn Carter (Ronald) of Monroe, VA; Charles Lewis, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Lynchburg, VA; Clarice Lewis (Ethan Charity) of Waldorf, MD; Aquanda Watts (Reverend Wendell Watts, Sr.); Turner Lewis; and Angela Lewis, all of Madison Heights, VA. Geneva also lovingly raised her niece, Teresa Colmore Vaughter, as one of her own. She extended her nurturing spirit to many neighborhood children who affectionately called her "Mom" and found warmth and wisdom in her care.
At an early age, Geneva accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of Lovingston Baptist Church in Madison Heights, VA. She deeply cherished her church family and stood as a pillar of faith and devotion. Geneva was a proud graduate of Colony Road High School in Madison Heights, VA, Class of 1954. She later attended Stokes Beauty School of Cosmetology, where she graduated at the top of her class. She had a gift for hairstyling and was known for her love of cutting hair short. For over 50 years, she shared her talent in both professional salons and the comfort of her home until her health declined. Alongside her work in cosmetology, she dedicated 24 years of service as a supervisor at Central Virginia Training School before retiring.
Geneva faithfully supported her beloved husband, Reverend Charles Lewis, in his ministry, walking beside him as he preached the Gospel and led souls to Christ. As the esteemed First Lady of the Slate River Baptist Church, the Zion Baptist Church, and the Piney Grove Baptist Church, she encouraged and supported each congregation. She was a faithful member of the Minister Wives Association for many years, as well as other Christian organizations. Geneva embodied the essence of elegance and dignity, always presenting herself with style and poise. She was widely admired for her outstanding outfits and exquisitely adorned hats, which became a hallmark of her presence. With each encounter, she carried herself with the refined grace of a woman of God, exuding both strength and sophistication.
Geneva was a woman of love, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. She had a special gift in the kitchen and was famous for her sweet potato pie, gingerbread, and rice pudding. If you ever had the privilege of tasting them, you knew you had experienced something special. And if you hadn't oh, how much you missed!
Her legacy of love continues through her cherished grandchildren: Nathan Donigan of Herndon, VA; Donche'z Brown of Upper Marlboro, MD; Quinon Lewis (Mattie) of Bowie, MD; Derek and Daryl Lewis of Lynchburg, VA; Genevi Phillips (Tayler) of Amherst, VA; Turina Lewis of Rockville, MD; Nathaniel Lewis of Lynchburg, VA; and Wendell Watts, II of Madison Heights, VA. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren and an immeasurable number of honorary children whom she loved as her own. Her memory will be treasured by a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends who were fortunate to experience her warmth and grace.
Geneva has completed her earthly journey, exchanging her robe of flesh for a robe of righteousness and receiving her crown of glory. Though she has departed from this earthly life, her spirit remains ever-present in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She has fought the good fight, she has finished her course, and she has kept the faith.
Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Matthew 25:21
