Obituary

Florine B. Miller was born June 12, 1922 in Amherst County to the late George and the late Maggie Quarles Massie.  She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband, Roy P. Miller of 54 year; two sisters, Aileen M. Jones and Emma Sarah M. Bryant; four brothers, Leonard Massie, Sr., Sandford "Bo" Massie, George Robert Massie, Sr. Norman E. Massie; four sisters-in-law; Telmarine Massie, Sylvia Massie, Jerlene Massie and Mary E. B. Massie; and four brothers-in-law, Thomas "Skinny" Hughes, Jr., Cleveland Jones, Sr., Richard Bryant, Sr. and Robert L. Kirksey.

Florine was valedictorian of Amherst graduation class of 1941.  She also attended a short course at Virginia State College. She joined Timothy Baptist Church and was a very active member.  Also, she was a member and president of the Community 4-H Club.

Upon moving to Washington, DC Florine and Roy P. Miller, also from Amherst County, VA united in marriage at Peace Baptist Church and soon after they joined Bethesda Baptist Church where for many years, she was an active Member.  Upon returning to Timothy Baptist Church, she was active as much as health permitted.  She said she was thankful and would never forget that salvation is a gift of God and not of works lest any man should boast.  Eph. 2:9

Florine often said her second membership church in Amherst was Piney Grove Baptist Church, her husband's membership church.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Mabel M. Hughes of Amherst and Shirley Kirksey of Pennsylvania; an adopted daughter, Octavia H. Hughes (Charles -nephew); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Florine would like to say, To all Christians whatever you do — whether it be in word or deed do it all in the name of Jesus, Jesus Christ our Lord.  And remember he will never leave you nor forsake you.
