Fannie Burton Jones 99, of 411 Smyth St. Lynchburg went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2009. at the Medical Care Center. She was born on June 12, 1909. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Howell Jones, Sr. one son, Sterling Jones and a sister, Queen Thompson. Fannie was a member of the Dearington Baptist Church Lynchburg where she served as a dedicated member of the Usher board every 1st Sunday of the month. Fannie was a very active member of Governor's Board on Aging, Lynchburg, Usher Board, Life Wire Club, Good Neighbors Club, League of Women Voters, Daughter of Elks, Alice Shear Flower Club, NAACP, Ladies of Leisure Club and was also a Sunday School Teacher. Fannie made her mark on society and will continue to be remembered by all who know her.
She Leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Gloria Jones of the home; three nieces, Mary (George) Turner of Big Island, Margaret (Donald) Humphries of Pittsburg, PA and Diane Thompson of Big Island; three great nieces, Mary Spinner of Roanoke, Latrice Thompson of Washington, DC and Tonia Thompson of Daytona Beach, FL along with a host of other friends and family. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Dearington Baptist Church with Dr. Lanksford E. Hankins, officiating and Rev. Artemus Dixon as eulogist. The interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-7 PM at Davis-Turner Funeral Service and other times at residence.
