Obituary

Eve Deborah Turner was born February 24 th , 1954 in Brooklyn New York to the late Amelia McCasker- Turner and Abie Duke Turner.  "Debbie" as she was known by the family and close friends was an only child by this union for nine years before her younger brother and sister were born. Eve was a very loving child and loved to learn; she believed in God and even preached to her dolls!!! She grew very quickly and was the tallest in her class. Eve was an exceptional student excelling in everything that she put her hands to do. Eve went to P.S.156, Somers Junior High school and Tilden High school in Brooklyn where she went to school with Pastor Al. Sharpton, before moving to Queens with her family where she Attended Springfield Gardens High School and graduated with an academic diploma. Eve knew the importance of a good education and continued as she worked towards a higher education. She loved learning new things and applying them to her life.

Eve then decided to have a family starting with her three daughters Tanisha, Kathrina, Chevonne and ending with her son Matthew. Eve loved her children very much and would do anything to make sure that they were well taken care of. During this time Eve entered the police academy to become a police officer and, she was in the first class of women to graduate and become a New York City Housing Officer. Although the job was very strenuous at times (she worked at every PSA in New York City), Eve did what she needed to do to raise her children and teach them right. She served as a Housing Police Officer for Fifteen years until The Housing Police and the NY City Police Department merged in 1995. Once the merger happened, she was a NYC Police Officer until she retired in 2001. (21Yrs). While being a single Parent of four children, Eve continued her education and graduated From York College with her bachelor's in science June 1 st , 1992.

Eve Loved helping people. Every time someone needed help, she was there. Young old rich or poor Eve was known to help you. Eve even helped the students that she interned with as a teacher. Eve was always helping somebody. No matter who you were she would lend out a helping hand, she was always there for everybody. Given the chance she would even give you the shirt off of her back and if that did not fit; figure out a way to make it stretch so that it would. Eve had a way of doing things. Eve had an effect on everyone that she came in contact with. People fell in love with her generosity, her personality and her infectious smile. Eve enjoyed taking care of her grand-children and sharing her knowledge and wisdom with them and others. She was not afraid to share what she knew with anyone. Eve had a way of Keeping It Real which seemed to draw people to her. People would just stop and talk to her, telling them about their problems and then afterwards feel better with a sense of relief that they talked with her. She would tell you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear.  Anyone who knew Eve knows that she had a way of saying things that was for your good.

Eve liked her music and had a great album collection to prove that. She loved to dance, skate, party and have fun. She loved to travel, and after her retirement Eve left her hometown of New York and ventured towards the south. She moved to a town called Cheraw, S.C. and lived there for seventeen years before deciding to move. She lived in Charlotte briefly then she moved to Lynchburg Virginia where she was called home.

God called Eve home on Thursday February 11 th , 2021. Eve was preceded in death by her Mother and Father named above, her sisters; Rhonda Turner, Abie Turner JR, and Verna Cheatham.
