On Thursday, June 25, 2026, Eugene Lambert Hood, Jr. departed this life at the age of 96. He was born on November 10, 1929, to the late Eugene and Virginia Miller Hood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Hood; his brothers, Lawrence, Andrew, and Bernard Hood; and four sisters, Selena Hood Gardner, Geraldine Hood, Nannie Jones, and Leona Hood.

Eugene, affectionately known as “Big June,” became a member of New Vine Baptist Church at an early age. He was employed by Piedmont Flour Mill before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his faithful service, he was honorably discharged. Eugene enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in his yard, watching NASCAR races, and making cherished memories with his great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of family, and quiet enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved sister, Sophia Hood-Suitt; sister-in-law, Johnnie Hood; his devoted soulmate, Jean Lewis; Devoted caregiver, Chakayla Morris. Stepchildren, Shelia Burwell, Barbara Woodson (Robert), George Lewis, Laverne Lewis, and Joyce Lewis; biological granddaughter, Kwana Brown; a special granddaughter, Linda Lewis, who he raised; a host of loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
