IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Estrello
Barnett
December 19, 1969 – January 19, 2021
"There are some that bring a light so great into the world that even when they are gone the light remains."
Estrello Alcindor Barnett was peacefully called to his heavenly home in the early hours of Tuesday, January 19, 2021from Lynchburg General Hospital in the company of caring nurses.
Estrello, Strella, or Strell as he was affectionately known, was born on December 19, 1969 to the late Homer C. Barnett and Lecie Toms Barnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Santresa Chaya Barnett.
At an early age, Estrello dedicated his life to Christ at Oak Hill Baptist Church where he later served on the Men's Chorus and the Mass Choir. Estrello was a man of great faith. It was that faith along with God's undeserved favor that transformed his test into a testimony in his long battle with Multiple Myeloma. Even on his hardest days, he never failed to let us know just how good God had been to him and more than willing to offer encouragement where he could in the battles of others.
He was truly family-oriented, which can be expected coming from a large, close-knit family such as his. Along with his distinct, deep voice, he had the kind of smile that radiated happiness and an infectious laugh that was sure to spread to those around him. He was quick-witted and had a great sense of humor. He had a heart for connecting with others. Many of us were blessed to be dubbed one of his signature nicknames such as Kate, Fu Fu, Buck Rogers, Longline Skinner, Light Bright, Baby Girl, and so many more. Estrello was a kid-at-heart and there was never a dull moment with him. From gaming on his Xbox, to riding his motorcycle, dirt bike or four wheelers, to playing pool, and pranks on unsuspecting friends and family—he believed in enjoying as many moments in life as possible. All who knew him have come to know that he was a diehard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team. He would travel to games as often as he could, also collecting memorabilia and team swag. He could often be heard shouting, "Eagles, Baby!" He looked forward to and enjoyed it all, big and small, from vacations with family to regularly spending his Sunday evenings with Sabrina, Kelsey, and Brenda. Estrello loved a home-cooked meal. He especially loved breakfast for dinner, steak and baked potatoes, peanut butter and bologna sandwiches, Little Debbie cakes and "Edward's" Original Whipped Cheesecake.
Those left to cherish his memories include his beloved wife of 3 years, Sabrina Barnett; four daughters, Kelsey Barnett (Devon) of Lynchburg, VA, Deshawna Hopkins (Kye) of Winchester, VA, Tamela Harris-Rouff (Samuel) of Appomattox, VA, and Ashleigh Harris of Lynchburg, VA; two sons, Antwain Kyle of Fort Mill, SC and Devin Jones of Staunton, VA; three brothers, Homer Barnett (Tammy), Brion Barnett (Sarah) both of Amherst, VA and Lucas Barnett of Lynchburg, VA; one sister, Tamara Rose (Gray) of Madison Heights, VA; eight grandchildren, Dawson Jones, Kyree Hopkins, Maisie Jones, Kalani Hopkins, Diamond Lawing, Xavier Lawing, Tre Lawing and Kingston Rouff; mother and father-in-law, Lewis and Daisy Rose of Amherst, VA; four brothers-in-laws, William Kyle (Sylvia) of Waynesboro, VA, Phillip Kyle, Sr. of Madison Heights, VA, Lewis "Tee" Rose III (Jasmine) of Evington, VA, and Lewis Rose II of Hackensack, NJ; three sisters-in-laws, Sharon Kyle of Madison Heights, VA, Katrina Diggs (Tyrone) of Amherst, VA and Monica Rose of Mt. Laurel, NJ; four especially devoted friends, Jamison Spinner, Herbert Smith, Eric Ward, and the late Christopher Loving; four aunts; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Estrello always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips but more importantly he left a legacy of love, joy, and faith, on which he stood until the very end.
