Elvin Sylvestar Smith (El) of Amherst, VA, departed this life on Thursday, July 31, 2024. Born on July 31, 1958, to the late Barbera Smith-Tucker and raised by Herman and Dorothy Smith. Elvin was a devoted family man and hardworking professional.

El crafted a distinguished career as a mechanic for 15 years, a truck driver for 25 years, and most recently, an entrepreneur and Amherst County employee for the past four years. His passions included fishing, camping, motorcycles, and a deep love for animals (Buddy & Debo).

A man of faith, El accepted Christ at an early age and joined Piney Grove Baptist Church in Amherst, VA. He served faithfully as a member of the usher board and as a trustee, carrying out his duties with dedication and care.

El leaves behind his loving wife, Lila Smith; three sons, Dewayne (Dawn) Smith, Jermaine (Tia) Smith, and Cole (Brianna) Hylton; six grandchildren, Jae'lyn, Devonte, Jazmyne, Jamaya, Avery, and Addison; one great-grandchild, Journi; and his devoted aunts and uncles, Dorothy (Gerald) Thomas, Eva (David) Hardy, Elaine (Charles) Carter, and Emma Smith. He will be deeply missed by his dear friends, Steve (Darnell) Douglas, Greg Morton, Anthony Hughes, Jr., (Termite) Tinsley; his very close friend (and son), Roger (Arshae) Douglas; adopted granddaughter, Mikayla Cashwell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
