On Tuesday, April 26, 2016 God chose to call home one of his faithful and loyal servants, Elvin Gloria Harris and now she rests peacefully in his arms. She was known for warm smile and outgoing personality. Elvin had a special way of loving and caring for her loved ones. Elvin was born on November 7, 1926 to Ivanhoe Jenkins and Coral B. Jenkins.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Harris, Sr, her sons Floyd "Curly" Harris, Jr and Devine Harris; her brothers Doc Jenkins, Walter Jenkins, Robert "Polly" Jenkins, William Jenkins, Luther Jenkins, Clent Jenkins, Clifford Jenkins, and Clarence Jenkins; and two sisters Grace Jenkins and Loral Jenkins.
She worked as a Registered Nurse(RN) until she retired from the Central Virginia Training Center (CVTCC). Her love for nursing showed through her interactions, care, and love for her patients and colleagues.
At an early age she professed her faith in Christ. She joined Union Hill Baptist Church and remained a faithful member.
She is survived by a daughter, Angelique (Clarence) Carter of Lynchburg; brother, Bernard "Hoover" (OlieMae) Jenkins of Ohio; one sister, Ellen Harris of Ohio;six grandchildren, Angelo of Lynchburg, Yolanda Harris North Carolina, Antonio Harris of Amherst, Haywood Stallings of Hawaii, Trinity Harris and Aliimen Carter of Amherst; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Union Hill Baptist Church, 1039 Union Hill Road, Amherst VA. The family is receiving friends at Angelique Harris' house and on Monday at Davis-Turner Funeral Service from 7-8 PM. Her remains will be open to the public one hour prior to the service.
