Nothing That Is Ever Loved Is Ever Lost…
"Nothing that is ever loved is ever lost…
No one who has touched a life who has brought beauty to the world,
is ever truly gone…."

Ellen Megginson Wheeler
Ellen Megginson Wheeler, our beloved Mother and Aunt, slipped quietly into the realm of immortality at her home, on December 28, 2012. Her passage was as her living; majestic and giving, without complaint, accepting and believing that God's almighty power would not fail. Affectionately known as "Pudding", Ellen was the last of thirteen children, and the chapter end of the first generation of Royal and Roxianna Megginson, descendants of slaves Albert & Judie (Julia) Megginson.

Distinguished by her warm smile and gentle demeanor, Ellen was a quiet and low-keyed person, who could be a ball of fire when pushed to her limits. She is most remembered for her love of family and friends, and, as the center of attention and affection from the family and community for many years.

As a mother, sister, aunt and friend, she was the matriarch of the Megginson family. A gentle, refined and proud lady, she opened her heart and her home to all. Appreciated for her unconditional love and for loving no matter what, she always showed love in ways that made people feel valued and cherished.

Known as "Aunt Pudding" she was continually filled with excitement over the accomplishments of all of her 'children,' who included all the neighborhood kids, and children from other families and communities. She was kind and patient, and did her very best to gently polish away the rough edges. She was the person to turn to for comfort, encouragement, or just a hug. She will be remembered for making a home for many where they could feel safe, where they felt belonged, and where they always felt loved. In watching her caring ways and sharing fun-filled yesterdays, we have learned love from her.

God strengthened her, soothed her, wrapped her in His infinite love and showered her with blessings too numerous to count, and too magnificent to describe. She was loved, admired and continually gave to others. Still in her golden years and declining health, she was always concerned about and continued to visit the ill.

As we close the chapter on yet another generation of Megginsons, we are left with a legacy of love, compassion and caring that has been immeasurable in shaping the lives of so many. As a family, we were so richly blessed to have her stretch out her arms to receive us, care for us, and guide us towards a better future. We have found great joy in the years of yesterday and will forever cherish our time with her. Among the more humorous memories are the early years in which her family often prayed for the many highway travelers who endured the many challenges as she took to the road in her 'Little Yellow Bug." She could barely see over the steering wheel, and yet, she and her traveling companion, Sue, were always off and running.
Ellen spent her last years with friends and family, shopping, traveling, and caring for her four-legged companion, 'Chico.' She is characterized by two favorite questions: "Am I going to have a birthday party this year?" and "Where are we going this evening?" On this past Christmas day, she asked where we were going today. When told that we would be going to dinner, her response was, "Who's paying?"
Best remembered by her smile and dry wit, she was an early participant in the PACE program where she 'went to work each day' and relished in the attention given there. In addition to the clinical services received, this program gave meaning and dignity at a time that she needed additional support in life. There were so very many great activities and times, and she loved each minute. In one of the most memorable activities, she was a featured guest model, with her other elegant colleagues, in the first PACE Fashion Show. There she walked the red carpet in a stunning black & white courtier with a black Versace bag and matching shoes. This activity was one of many that she found the greatest excitement and joy in participating. It is also because of such involvement, support and intervention, that the quality of her life was so enriched; and, it is with the greatest respect and appreciation that we honor the work of the PACE program and staff. The glow on her face told the story as only it could best be told.
"Pudding" was our mother, our aunt and our friend, and she was a lovely and most precious person. Born in Lynchburg, and having spent all of her years here, she was married for 65 years to the late dapper dan James Wheeler, who passed away in 2007. At the marvelous age of 96, God has smiled from His Golden Throne and welcomed her home. She leaves treasured memories to two daughters, Rachel & Jean, and a community of many other loving relatives and friends.
We are grateful for her life and know that
tomorrows will start without her.
Yet, because of her absolute love of life and unselfish giving,
every time we think of her, we know that she is right here in our lives
and will forever live in the hearts of all of us.
The celebration of her legacy will be on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Lynchburg VA., 24504, where family visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12 Noon, and the service will begin at 12:00 Noon.
