Obituary

Edgar R. Moore, 89, of Amherst, departed this life on Thursday, November 03, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born on January 01, 1933, to Carl and Alberta Starks Moore. Affectionately known as "PeeWee", he was the fourth of six sons born to them. He accepted Christ at an early age, joining the First Baptist Church, Coolwell. He remained a faithful and dedicated member throughout his life. He was involved in many church organizations such as the Usher Board, the Men's Chorus, and The Brotherhood Ministry, serving as President of the Trustee Board and being a part of the Senior Choir for over 50 years.

He graduated from Amherst County Training School in 1950 and went on to attend North Carolina A&T before leaving there to enlist in the Army in 1953. During his enlistment, he was able to see the world by being sent to locations around Europe and Asia. When he returned home after his discharge, he married Geneva A. West in 1956. To this union two sons were born, Edwin and Anthony.

PeeWee worked as a brick mason for much of his life. He began this work with his brother, Sam, and then went on to be employed by Old Dominion Job Corps Center where he taught brick masonry. He loved sharing this trade with his students during the many years of his employment. After leaving ODJC, he worked for Amherst County Public Schools until his retirement.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alberta Moore; his son, Edwin D. Moore; daughter-in-law, Donna Moore; five brothers, Samuel C. Moore, Maurice L. Moore, Robert L. Moore, Franklin D. Moore, and Chester G. Moore; and one sister, Barbara L. Donigan.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Geneva A. Moore; his dedicated son, Anthony Q. Moore, both of Amherst; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Erik Thomas of Raleigh, NC, and his son, Dionte Thomas of Concord, Crystal Rosson (Shane) and their daughters, Sydney Cook and Zoe Rosson of Madison Heights; his sister, Jacqueline Jordan of Beltsville, MD; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hutcherson, Shirly Christian, and Alice West, all of Madison Heights, and Ethel Moore of Greenville, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
