On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital, God sent his angels to gently escort Douglas Smith, affectionately known as "Mack/Smitty" to his eternal rest.

He was born on December 15, 1942, to Kenneth and Signora Smith, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Waylan and Libby Smith, Harrison and Mary Campbell, also nine Uncles; nine Aunts; and one brother-in-law, Thurman "Coochie" Rose. He leaves to cherish his memory, his only child, devoted daughter, Sherri Smith of Madison Heights, VA; three loving sisters, Juanita Rose, Mary Smith, and Hazel Smith of Arrington, VA. Two nieces, Paula Rose of Madison Heights, VA and Denise Waugh (Jemal) of Evington, VA. Three nephews Stan Smith (Jessica) of Madison Heights, VA, Michael Smith (Sue) of Monroe, VA, and Vincent Smith (Shelby) of Rustburg, VA. Two grandnephews, Kareem Rose of Arrington, VA and Jemal Waugh, Jr. of Evington, VA. Also, a dear friend, Ms. Elsie Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the St. Mary's Baptist Church.

Mack graduated from Central High School, Amherst, VA; and proudly served his country for two years in the US Army. He worked at BWXT for thirty-six plus years prior to his retirement. He was a jack of all-trades, there wasn't anything he couldn't build or fix. He also loved maintaining the upkeep of his vehicles. And he was willing to assist others when in need. Also, enjoyed watching all televised sports and in his earlier years he was an avid hunter, and enjoyed motorcycle riding with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Mr. Smith will be on view one hour prior to the start of the service. Interment will be at the Christian Aid Cemetery.
