Douglas Haynes Hendrix, 64, of Amherst departed his life on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on July 3, 1951 to the late Lucille and Henry F. Hendrix. Douglas was preceded in death by one sister, Sandra Haynes; nephew Leon Haynes, paternal grandparents, John and Laura R. Hendrix and maternal grandparents, Jim and Laura B. Carperter.
Douglas was a faithful member of Piney Hill Baptist Church and a dedicated employee for 25 years at Fitzgerald Lumber of Buera Vista. Douglas was a loving and kind hearted person that was willing to hand a helping hand whenever needed. He loved the Washington Redskins and looked forward to watching wrestling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to his music and riding. Douglas inspired all that interacted with him.
Douglas leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 40 years who was the love of his life, Delois Hendrix; two devoted children, Carlos Hendrix (Myia) and Natasha Hendrix (Damien), of Amherst; one grandson, Cayden Hendrix whom he referred to as his "Bundle of Joy"; one god-daughter, Lexus Paige and Damien Clark, Jr. who he love as a grandchild; three sisters, Dorothy Rose (Bud), Laurette Hemmings, of Lynchburg and Gladine Richardson, of Amherst; a loving mother-in-law, Vercina Douglas; one sister-in-law, Berlina Davis (Maurice); one brother-in-law, Glen Douglas, both of Amherst; aunts and uncles, Ocie Cabell, Ruth Carter (Jack), Elizabeth Hendrix, Sadie Hendrix and Webster Grooms; a devoted nephew, Tra Richardson and Arshae Douglas to whom he played a major part in their lives and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
