Dorothy Lee "Tootsie" Brown was called to be with her Lord and Savior on April 14, 2026, at 12:05 PM.

Born on December 19, 1934, to loving parents, the late Eleanor P. Johnson and the late William R. Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Brown; her son, Aubrey D. Hughes, Jr; former husband, Aubrey D. Hughes, Sr., her sister, Lillian Williams; and her brother, Robert Wallace Johnson.

Dorothy found joy in life’s pleasures, especially her love for flowers, her home, and preparing and sharing good meals.

Left to rejoice in her legacy is her daughter, Katina (Darryl) Hawkins; her grandchildren: Aubrey (Alvita) Hughes, III, Tiffany Hughes(Jayquan), Gabrielle (Jacob) Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Brianna (Ayoade) Hawkins, Makahyla Hawkins, Darryl Hawkins, Jr., and Malachi Hawkins. She also leaves to rejoice in her memory 7 beautiful great-grandchildren. Dorothy will also be missed by her two amazing brothers, William R. Johnson, Jr., and Reverend Dr. Mack H. Johnson; daughter-in-law, Sheila Hughes; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown will be on view one hour prior to the start of services. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Service of comfort entrusted to Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
