On the afternoon of July 19, 2023, Peaches with her eyes gazed toward heaven, was set free from her earthly tabernacle to ascend to her heavenly home, where she met a host of angelic family members to greet her, to include her deceased father, Curtis A. Johnson. Peaches was born Deborah Renee Johnson, November 6, 1969, but was fondly called Peaches by family and friends.

At an early age, Peaches was baptized and confessed Jesus at the Piney Grove Baptist Church in Amherst, VA. Later in life and more recently invigorated with expressions Peaches professed her faith as an online worshipper, as well she enjoyed the gospel through word and song. On a daily basis she sent via Facebook encouraging scriptures and uplifting words to the family and scores of friends. And was heard many times on her job singing Hezekiah Walker's, "Every Praise is to Our God".

As a youth, Peaches excelled in many different sports and was a standout athlete at Amherst County High School where she participated in several sports (volleyball, basketball, and track and field) while maintaining a high academic standard amongst her peers and classmates. All of which enabled her to be successful at Old Dominion University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. Her degree, quick wit, and great interpersonal skills assisted her in landing a job in the mortgage industry at Central Fidelity Bank where she learned many viable skills before relocating to the DMV area where she also worked in the banking industry and again excelled in the mortgage department all the while meeting many lifelong friends.

After getting married and later relocating back to the Amherst area to help take care of her ailing parents, Peaches acquired a job at Food Lion as a Front-end cashier. Peaches later revamped her career and again was employed as a Loan Processor Specialist at the Bank of the James where she thrived in the market and touched many lives with her effervescent personality.

Peaches had a keen memory for trivia and was a closet Jeopardy player and was a tenacious sports enthusiast on many levels as well as a ride or die Steelers fan (Steelers Nation for Life). Even though she lived away for years, she never forgot her childhood roots and the community that shaped who she was in the early stages of life. Her words of wisdom and encouragement to family and friends was motivated and centered around deep and profound respect for the elders, especially in the communities of her family's heritage of Slapp Creek and Puppy Creek. She was often heard saying, "Slapp Creek for Life!" and "I'm just keeping it real!", which in essence is how she lived her life with high regard and respect for the elders who paved the way for the younger generations we have today. Peaches was often involved in local fund raisers, community events, protest, marches, etc. in any way she could to help represent the struggle and approach the change needed to make our environment safe and community politically correct when opportunity was presented.

Peaches leaves a hole in the heart of her beloved mother, Mattilean "Cooley" Johnson; her devoted husband and soul mate of nineteen years, Stephen; daughters, Zarriah and Shanece; a devoted and loving brother, Jeffrey A. Johnson (Candilla) Owings Mill, MD. She is also survived by her mothers-in-law, Shirley O'Bannon of Oxon Hill, MD and Anita Harper; father-in-law, Ronald Harper of Amherst, VA; brother-in-law, Shayne C. O'Bannon (Takayo); sister-in-law, Crystal O. Gaston, both of Maryland. Four aunts, Mary Liesure of Richmond, VA, Vernice Rucker (Creed), devoted aunt, Catherine Johnson, and Mary Richerson of Amherst, VA, and Ernestine Richerson (Ron) of Atlanta, GA; three uncles, Asby Richerson (Evelyn), Ruben Richerson (Sheila), both of Richmond, VA, and Lawrence Richerson (Uldine) of Amherst, VA. Three Godchildren, Six grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews, among them devoted niece and nephew, Jessica Williams and Eron Small. Peaches was blessed to be loved and cherished by many, among them a host of relatives and friends.
