Obituary

Deborah Scott Baker departed this life on February 28, 2021, at her residence.  She was born in Washington, D.C. to stepfather, Francis J. Queen, and mother the late Gloria "Chico" Queen on October 10, 1953 and was preceded in death by her adopted parents Uncle Herman and Aunt Allean Scott.

During middle and high school Deborah participated in 4-H club. She achieved the status of 4-H All Star and travelled to Ohio and other states for competitions. After graduating from high school, she moved to Maryland and received an AA degree from Prince George Community College. She was employed as a hairdresser at Thalhimers and then became a social worker, not knowing that her first client would be her mother-in-law, Minister Alberta C. Davis. Deborah often shared the story of how she met her husband. They first laid eyes on each other at McDonald's. The next time was over a cup of water (Mark 9:41) at her in laws' house. They then started seeing one another regularly and were married on Independence Day, July 4, 1989, when Arthur received his " good thing " (Proverbs 8:22). In 1992, Deborah became pregnant and gave birth to a son, Arthur "Scott" Baker on December 6, 1992.

The family lived in Northern, Virginia for a couple years and then moved to Suitland, Maryland for three years. In 1997, Deborah and her family returned to Rustburg, Virginia.  She was employed at the Vocational Technical Center and later as an instructional aide at Yellow Branch Elementary School for more than fifteen plus. She retired in 2015.

Deborah joined the Cross Road Baptist Church as a child and was active in several organizations.  She sang on the church choir, served as an usher, worked in Sunday School, and developed the church newsletter.  She served at Faith City Church on the Follow-up Committee. Deborah was always smiling and encouraged and strengthened many people's faith through her own personal life challenges. She inspired individuals to keep hope alive and press forward toward the mark for the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus.

Deborah leaves beloved memories with her husband of 31 years, Arthur "Bubby" Baker; her son, Arthur Scott Baker; stepfather, Frances J. Queen, and mother-in-law, Minister Alberta C. Davis.  She also leaves her aunts Carrie Clark and Francine Stockton; uncle, Eddie McDaniel, and aunt, Augusta McDaniel; four sisters-in-law, Juanita, Sherian, Lorraine, and Kim; two devoted cousins, Kathy and Genelle; a dear friend, Shelby Payne; and other cousins, relatives, and friends.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for

the evidence of things not seen.
