Deaconess Lizzie Boyd Hill Workman was born June 15, 1914 in Lauren County, South Carolina to the late Elden and Amy Boyd.
She received her education in the public school system in Cross Hill, South Carolina. At an early Lizzie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized and attended church at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Lauren County.
Lizzie married her childhood sweetheart, Jake Workman, on February 22, 1932. They relocated to Richmond, VA in 1937. From their union was born Carolyn Claudette Workman and Cheryl Yvette Workman. They made their home together in Richmond. Soon after setting in Richmond, Lizzie obtained employment at Phillip Morris Inc. until she retired in 1975.
Lizzie loved her family, friends, and church family. Most of all, Lizzie loved the Lord. Lizzie leaves a legacy of love for her family and friends. Those left to remember and cherish fond memories are her daughters, Carolyn Claudette Workman, Cheryl Yvette Workman-Edwards (Dr. Antoine); granddaughters, Leslie, Brooke, Dalerie and Arika; great grandson, Theodore Roosevelt Edwards, II, god-grandson, Christopher Mason, and a host of other relatives, friends, loved ones and church family.
A funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon Monday January 7, 2012 at Chicago Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Marlon Haskell, Pastor, officiating and Rev. Dr. Antoine L.T.R. Edwards, III as eulogist. The interment will be in the Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
