Deacon James D. West, of Flint, Michigan, made his transition from this life peacefully, May 8, 2011 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was born in Amherst County VA, on September 25, 1931, to the late Walker D. West and Adelle Elliot West.
He attended elementary school in Amherst County VA. At an early age he joined Fairmount Baptist Church. In 1953 he relocated to Flint, Michigan where God blessed him to obtain employment at Chevrolet Manufacturing, a division of General Motors. He retired in July 1987 after 34 years of service.
He worshiped under the late Pastor Aldridge of Foss Ave. Baptist Church, under Pastor Fred S. White of New Heaven Baptist Church, Pastor Timothy Stokes of Family Worship Center Church, Int'l & lastly Pastor Jonnie Brown III of Empowered Believers Worship Center.
Married for 58 years, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, friend & also for his wit, wisdom and humor. He enjoyed fishing, repairing lawn mowers, watching TV, and breakfast at McDonalds.
James was preceded in death by his daughter, Toynette Mosby; grandson, Phillip West; three sisters, Martha Christian, Eleanor Jordan & Alice Alma Ferguson and brother, Odester West.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife Dr. Hassie T. West; two children: daughter, Felicia M. West of Flint, son, Lawrence D. West of Flint; four grandchildren, LaToya M. West of Inglewood, CA, Charles Jr. of Memphis, TN, Joe Louis Mosby Jr. of Roanoke, VA, Jason M. Mosby of Madison Heights, VA; three sisters, Evelyn Hutcherson, Shirley Christian of Madison Heights, Geneva (Edgar) Moore of Amherst; two brothers, Oscar West, Lawrence West (Alice) of Madison Heights; five sisters, Betty West of Madison Heights, Maryann Mickles, Evington, Edna Bryant (Leon) Flint, MI, Vastine Payne (Rev. Raymond), Jeanette Davis, Evington,; two step, sisters-in-law, Frances Allen and Lucy Raven of Evington; two brothers-in-law, Carey Herndon & Deacon Alphonso Scott (Jannie) of Evington and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & dear friends, including special friends, Wally Towns, Raymond Nelson & James Richardson.
The Family would like to send a special Thanks to Pastor Jonnie Brown III and the Empowered Believers Worship Center, Dr. Katneni, Hurley Medical Center Trauma Unit Staff, Henry Ford Hospital F1 Unit, and 'Right At Home' home care nursing team.
