Obituary

His lord said unto him, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matthew 25:21

0n the morning of Wednesday, November 30, 2016 a beloved son, grandson, husband, father and friend, Kylon Stephen Smith, Sr., was called from earthly labor to his Heavenly reward.

Kylon was born on June 7, 1983, in the beautiful city of Hartford, Connecticut to John Barber Jr. and Storie Smith. He attended the public schools of Connecticut and was a 2001 graduate of Windsor High School. Understanding the importance of education, Kylon matriculated to the historic North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2004 he was in a near fatal car accident in which he suffered major brain injury. Kylon was in the ICU and was hospitalized for months. Amidst these challenges while still yet recuperating he returned back to the university graduating on the dean's list receiving a degree in Psychology.

Kylon's Christian foundation was strong as his family's history contained numerous preachers and ministers. While in college he joined a campus ministry called "Shekinah" and there he had his own personal experience with God. During this time he was baptized and filled with the spirit. He began to travel extensively with his now pastor, S.Y. Younger, serving as his armour bearer and assistant. This was a position that he held dear to his heart. While working in the campus ministry, Kylon was graced to meet a very special young lady and as destiny would have it, on February 29, 2008, Brittany T. Wells became his wife.

In the year of 2005, a small group of mostly college students began The Ramp Church. Throughout the course of time, Kylon and Brittany traveled countless miles, serving in ministry. Kylon served in any ministry capacity with dignity and honor. He gracefully worked because of his possession of a servant's heart. He served as the Vice President of the ushers for many years. He was found standing every Sunday and Wednesday at the main doors of the sanctuary. In addition Kylon and his wife launched the marriage ministry of The Ramp and served as its first directors. When his wife took on the position of youth pastor he began to mentor several young men in the church who he has had a great impact upon.

On February 27, 2010 he successfully completed a biblical training certification program at the J. Alfred Cage Bible Institute. In the year of 2012 after passing an oral and written examination, Kylon became an ordained deacon through the alliance of One Way Churches International at its Holy Convocation in Annapolis, MD. In January 2014, the diaconate of The Ramp Church voted Deacon Kylon Smith as the chairman of the board.

Deacon Kylon was currently employed as a Clinician with Horizon Behavioral Health, Lynchburg, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roland and Joan Smith. There are those who shall miss times spent but hold precious memories that will last a lifetime.
