On January 9th 2013 Deacon Ernest L. Cunningham was called to Glory by his heavenly Father.
He was born on July 15, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. William Henry and Isdora Allen Cunningham in Campbell County. He professed Christ in his early teenage years at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Altavista, VA and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Altavista where he was a long standing Deacon for 56 years. He served in the US Army for Several years and was a WWII Veteran and he was employed by Schwels Furniture Company for Twenty-Seven Years.

He was united in Holy matrimony to Dora W. Clark in July 1950 and to this union four children were born; Linda (David) Spinner of Altavista, Glennwood (Debbie) Cunningham, of Roanoke, Alex (Wanda) Cunningham of Lynchburg and Lydia Farmer, of Lynchburg; in addition to his wife and children he leaves to celebrate his life, two sisters, Deborah J. Cunningham, of Gladys and Phyllis C. Basden, of Maryland; two brothers, Aaron Cunningham, of Altavista and Emmett Cunningham, Sr., of Washington, DC; four grandchildren, Patrice (Lee) Gilbert, Melletta Spinner, Jarrett Cunningham and Karra Farmer; three great grandchildren, Jorden Spinner, Jaden Gilbert and Jaleigh Gilbert; devoted nephew, Clarence "Jack" Cunningham and a host of nieces nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Altavista with Pastor Jackson, officiating and Rev. Alex Cunningham his son, as Eulogist.
