Bobby Gene Campbell born October 20, 1938, departed this life Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Fairmont Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center, Amherst, VA. He was the son of the late Herman and Fannie Campbell. Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Campbell; brothers, Richard, Thomas, Theodore and Junior Smith, and Elmore Campbell.
Bobby was born, raised, and educated in Amherst County. He was a humble and devoted man of God. He joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Amherst at an early age and was very active in the church. He served as Chairman of the Deacon's Ministry until his health failed. He always made sure the pulpit was filled when the church was without a pastor. He held other positions in the church such as A Member of the Senior Choir, Usher Ministry, Custodian, and Van Driver. You could always depend on him to have the church doors open for services, welcoming people with such a sweet spirit.
Bobby also represented New Jerusalem in the community. He was a member of the Amherst County Minister's Conference and church representative for the Rockfish Baptist Association.
Not only was he dedicated to his church, but he was also equally dedicated to his family. The love and kindness shown to his deceased sister-in-law, Mary Smith was a gift from God.
Bobby was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry. Established and Operated Campbell's Cleaning Service at General Electric, was Manager at ParBills Convenience Store, and was employed at Amherst County Public Works until his health failed. He loved working with his hands and performed home repairs/improvements for anyone that needed it in his spare time. He also enjoyed traveling with friends and family.
He leaves to cherish his memories; a son, Gregory Campbell (Wendy); granddaughter, Starr Campbell, Lowesville, VA; step-grandson, Chris Campbell, Lynchburg, VA; sisters-in-law, Shirley Campbell, Clinton, MD and Eleanor Campbell, Amherst, VA, beloved nephew, Larry Campbell (Crystal), Madison Heights, VA; godson, Devon Redd, Appomattox, VA; a very close and dear niece, Eva Jones of Madison Heights, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
