Deacon Willie Calvin James

Early Tuesday morning God called his servant Deacon James home to enternal rest after a long battle with cancer. Willie was born June 29, 1947 to the late Willie and Mary Lou James. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Henry James. Willie was baptized at Free Spring Baptist as a young child. He was ordained as a Deacon at Living Word Ministries on August 7, 2005. He was employed at Lynchburg Ready Mix for many years until he became ill. He leaves to cherish his loving memories a wife of 28 years Esther James "Bunny"; four devoted children Wesley, Michael, Roslyn, and Joseph James; two nephews and one niece Cedric, Seneca, and Simone Graham to whom he was a father; five grandchildren, Lesley, James, Dre'nesia and Dasani James, Kiara James and Dominick Jordan; a devoted father-in-law Minister Robert L. (Darlene) Graham; two sisters Berta James and Gloria Davidson of Rustburg; one sister-in-law, Veronica (Willie) Freeman; four brother-in-laws, William Ward, Anthony (Rosemary) Graham of Murfreesboro, Jonathan Graham and Timothy Graham; a special aunt, Laura Smalls and a host of nieces, aunts, cousins, and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lynchburg Hematology Oncology doctors, nurses, receptionist, and a special thanks to Dr. Headley who helped us for the last 10 years battle this disease, and Dr. and Mrs. Lockridge for being a great support system. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Living Word Ministries, 825 Taylor St. with Dr. James E. Camm officiating. The interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8 at Davis-Turner Funeral Service and other times at the residence.
