Obituary

Curtis Lee Megginson, Sr., 97, of Concord passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of Shirley Evans Megginson also of the residence.
Born June 18, 1915 in Appomattox County, he was the son of the late Clinton Megginson and Elizabeth Davidson Megginson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne M. Megginson; one daughter, Yvonne M. Woodson; a second wife, Elnora Scruggs Megginson; eight brothers, Harry, Centry, Spurgeon, Whyman, Claudle, Hezekiah, Eldridge and Percell Megginson; four sisters, Annie Laura Megginson, Ida Ferguson, Reva Smith and Rosa Davis.
Curtis retired from US Steel (Gary #9) Coal Mine after forty-five years of service. He loved to hunt and fish with his friends and son, he also loved his family. He cherished his dear friend and cousin Norvell Megginson (Boss), when Boss came around the two of them could just light up a room with smiles.
In addition to his lovely wife, Mr. Megginson is survived by one son, Curtis Lee Megginson, Jr. (Evelyn) of Concord; three adopted sons, Kinny Megginson (Janice), Maurice Megginson (Jamie) and Juno Woodson (Teresa), of Lynchburg; seven step daughters, Beatrice M. Ferguson, Polly Ford (Keith), Janet Mays, all of Lynchburg, Hope Callaham (Donald) , of Madison Heights, Dallas Davis (Herman) of GA, Alfreda Mays, of Orlando, FL and Ora S. McCoy, of Appomattox; four step sons, Elliott Mays, Jr. Wallace Mays, Sr. (Barbar), Norvell Mays (Mammie), all of Madison Heights, Gary Mays, Sr. (Wanda) of Amherst; seven sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, a multitude of grand, great, great-great grandchildren and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. C.D. Ferguson, officiating and Pastor Donald Foster, as Eulogist. The interment will be in the church cemetery. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
