Clementine Hunt Franklin, 90, departed this life on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Deaconess Clementine Franklin was born on February 22, 1934, in Warrenton, North Carolina, to the late Beamon F. Hunt and Nettie V. Burgess Hunt. She was the 5th of 13 children.
Clementine accepted Christ at the age of 10 and united with Shocco Chapel Baptist Church in Warrenton, NC. She served as the Church Clerk, was part of the Junior Choir, and served as a Junior Usher.
After relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, Clementine was a beautiful young woman who captured the eyes and heart of Clarence L. Franklin. They were married on July 10, 1965, at Triedstone Baptist Church. To this union, she was blessed with one son, Sean.
Clem, as she was called, worked as a Dental Assistant in Cleveland and in the Lynchburg area when the family moved to Amherst County. She also worked as a receptionist at Fairmont Crossing. Clem was also on the front lines answering the county's emergency calls as a faithful volunteer for the Amherst Life Saving and First Aid Crew, where she was a life member and served as secretary and Sgt. Chaplain. Clementine united with First Baptist Church, Coolwell where she served as Deaconess and treasurer of the Cemetery Aid Club until her health failed.
Clem was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Franklin; one brother, Eugene Hunt, Sr.; and one sister, Cote Richardson.
She leaves to cherish in her memory one son, Sean Franklin of Amherst, VA; one stepson, Anthony (Tracie) Franklin of Richmond Heights, OH; two stepdaughters, Denise Lewis and Terra Melton both of Cleveland, OH; two grand-goddaughters, Timera Nappier and Alexia Beverley; five brothers, Beamon Hunt, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; Dock Hunt (Loretta) of Pittsburgh, PA, Columbus Hunt of Tampa, FL, Thearl Hunt of Wake Forest, NC, and Conrad Hunt (Viola) of Cleveland, OH; five sisters, Lucy Brown of Richmond Heights, OH, Nell Carter of Raleigh, NC, Delois Hunt of Greensboro, NC, Shirley Johnson and Salonia Johnson (Melvin) of Wake Forest, NC; one sister-in-law, Priscilla Dorsey (Craig) of Beckley, WVA; a godson, Andrew Glover of Cleveland, OH; and extended family including a very devoted Goddaughter, Octavia Hughes (Charles); special friends, Dorothy Johnson and son, Ray Johnson; along with several special nieces and nephews.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Coolwell. Interment will be in Briarwood Memorial Gardens. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
