Clarence Joseph Wheeler departed this life on Sunday, March 5, 2017. He was born on December 16, 1931 to the late Samuel and Lucy Chilton Wheeler of Appomattox, VA. He was proceeded in death by four brothers Carroll, Yuille, Fredrick, and Sherman Wheeler and two sisters Georgia Anne, and Christine.
Clarence, a dedicated husband, father and friend, is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Thelma Lewis Wheeler of Lynchburg, VA, a son Clarence Lewis Wheeler, of Las Vegas, NV, a granddaughter Jasmine Wheeler of Baltimore MD and one great-granddaughter Sa'Laya Stogdon, a cousin Jeanie Cabbagestock of Baltimore MD, a nephew Charles Wheeler of Clinton MD and many other relatives and friends.
Clarence was a faithful servant to his church, his country, and his community. He joined Promise Land Baptist Church at an early age. He was ordained as a deacon at Promised Land Baptist Church and sang on the choir most of his adult life. He also served in that capacity at the Long Mountain Baptist Church. He answered the call of his country and served a tour of duty in the United States Army. Afterwards he returned home, in addition to working on the family farm, he was briefly employed by Appomattox Public Schools as a bus drivers and later landed a job at Lynchburg Foundry where he worked for 34 years until his retirement.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Long Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Ruff, Officiating and Rev. John Braxton, as Eulogist.
