Clarence L. Franklin, 93, departed this life on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.
He was born November 14, 1929, to the late McKinley and Carrie Jenkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Jenkins, Felix Jenkins, and John Brown; and one nephew, Christopher Brown.
Clarence was raised in Beckley, West Virginia. He enlisted in the US Army and served his country for six years. After being honorably discharged from the military he moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service a total of 40 years. He was President of the local Mail Handlers Union Local 305, Lynchburg, VA.
He confessed Christ and joined the First Baptist Church, Coolwell, Amherst, VA, where he was a faithful member until his health declined.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Clementine Franklin; two daughters, Denise Lewis and Terra Melton both of Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Anthony (Tracie) of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sean Franklin of Amherst, VA; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one grand-goddaughter, Timera Nappier; one sister, Priscilla Dorsey (Craig) of Beckley, West Virginia; a sister-in-law, Christine Jenkins of Oak Hill, West Virginia; and five additional sisters-in-law; and five brothers-in-law.
Special thanks to Clarence's caregivers, Patricia Sutton, Victoria Pendleton, Melissa Bryant, Angie Bryant, Tracy Franklin, Peggy Bennett, Tawanda Bennett, Eli Richardson, Sharon Hartless, and Angie Braxton.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, May 01, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Coolwell. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
