Obituary

On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, Clara Bell Jones Johnson was escorted by the angels into the presence of the Lord after a three-year battle with cancer and the victory is now hers.

Clara was born November 8, 1937, to the late Sampson Jones and the late Edith Cheatham Jones of Concord, Virginia.  Clara loved and trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as the savior and anchor of her life.  She was baptized and joined St. Luke Baptist Church of Brookneal, VA in her youth, then joined her husband in later years as a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church.  Clara enjoyed serving in the usher's ministry and the deaconess ministry, attending the Sunday night bible study, serving in the Sunday school as superintendent, the teaching and preaching of the gospel and fellowshipping with the saints.

Clara was a graduate of Campbell County High School and retired from BWXT.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her devoted and loving husband, William R. Johnson, Jr. ; her children, William R. Johnson, III, Michael J. Johnson, and Rev. Claresa J. Tinsley (Rev. Anthony Darnell) --all of Lynchburg, VA.   Dr. Melencia Johnson of Aiken, South Carolina, Jerome Johnson (Tiffany) of Concord, VA, Tajuanna Tinsley of Tallahassee, FL, Denee' Tinsley of Richmond, VA,  Marcel Tinsley of Lynchburg, VA, and Desiree' Gregory of Appomattox, VA.  Her joy was increased with the addition of two great-grandchildren, Neveah Irby and Travis Johnson of Lynchburg (Jerome and Tiffany).  She also leaves a host of loving and caring relatives and friends.

Those who knew Clara best knew her as joyful, kind, and compassionate.  She has been called a wise woman, insightful, a fine lady, and a wonderful Christian woman.  Clara loved being around people and never met a stranger.  She loved to laugh and loved bringing joy to others.  She could be quite funny with her many little sayings.  Truly, she was a woman of strength, of courage, and of faith.

This precious woman loved her family deeply and unconditionally and will always be cherished and treasured.  The brightness of her life will always be like a shining star we look to as a guiding light.

A funeral will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Immanuel Christian Church, with Dr. Mack Johnson, officiating and Rev. Greg Dowell, as eulogist.  The interment will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:00 PM at Immanuel Christian Church.  Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
