Obituary

On Friday, June 19, 2026, Deacon Carroll Owen Sandidge entered into eternal rest at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his loving wife, children, and family.

Deacon Carroll Sandidge was born on August 25, 1941, in Amherst County, to the late Mancil A. and Maggie Rose Sandidge. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mancil Duval Sandidge; and one grandson, Desean Gentry.

Carroll was a very kindhearted, humble man. He made friends wherever he went. Carroll was an original member of the Sensational Clouds of Joy. Singing with them for over sixty years. Carroll enjoyed singing in the church and with other quartet groups when they needed help. Carroll gave his life to Christ at a young age at St. Peter’s Baptist Church. Later, he joined the deacon board and then became the Chairman. He was an employee and retired from Delta Star after fifty years.

Deacon Carroll Sandidge is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Julia Ann Sandidge. Five sons, Carroll J. Sandidge of Suffolk, VA, Michael O. Sandidge of Georgetown, Texas, Kenny Carter (Georgette), Kelvin Carter (Anna), and Clarence Carter (Angelique) of Madison Heights, VA. One niece, Malvina Sandidge-Penn (Otis) of Danville, VA. Two special nieces he treated like daughters, Tina Andrews-Noel and Tara Otero of Madison Heights, VA. Sisters-in-law, Mary E. Lewis, Greensboro, NC, and Jean A. Sandidge, Amherst, VA. Grandchildren, Chris Sandidge, Lauren Sandidge, Latishea Christian (Darius), Moniqua Carter, Demitri Carter (Jessica), Damien Carter (Lorel), Alimeen Carter, Brijada Rogers, Ronald Rogers, and Clarence Rogers. A host of great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. 

A homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St. Peter's Baptist Church. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Interment will be in the Christian Aid Cemetery. Service of comfort entrusted to Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
