IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carlton
Logan
May 30, 1929 – November 17, 2020
Rev. Dr. Carlton Logan, 91, departed this life on November 17, 2020 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Logan, and devoted family members.
Carlton received his education from the public-school system of Lynchburg, VA. He attended Dunbar High School, until he dropped out to join the U.S. Navy, serving four years. He was honorably discharged in April 1950 and worked numerous jobs before beginning his work at General Electric Company. While employed at GE, he decided to follow the advice of his sister, Dorothy Obey, who was a teacher for 39 years, to go back to school. He received his high school diploma in October 1977. Rev. Dr. Carlton Logan was called to the ministry and received his license in 1987 from Rivermont Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Harry J. Pilson. He was ordained by Rev. Dr. Winston R. Jones, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of South Lynchburg at Rivermont Baptist Church to be set aside to conduct public ministry.
After retiring from GE, following 28 years of service, he studied at Liberty Bible Institute for 2 years where he received his Associate Degree in Theology. Later, he attended Central Virginia Community College and Eastern Theological Seminary where he received a Bachelor of Theology Degree in May of 2002. He continued his education graduating from Eastern Theological Seminary in May 2009 with a Master of Religious Education. Finally, he was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letter's Degree from Eastern Theological Seminary of Lynchburg, VA on October 22, 2009.
Rev. Dr. Logan enjoyed sharing the word of God with everyone as he embarked upon his outreach ministry. He loved his family and friends and never met a stranger.
Rev. Dr. Logan served in many ministries throughout his life. One of the ministries dearest to his heart was his apple ministry. He looked forward to his annual trips to the orchard to share bushels of apples with his closest friends and demonstrated the word of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with his deliveries. He was able to sustain this apple ministry up until the time of his passing. He also ministered to people through "The Victory in Jesus" radio program on WLVA. Another highlight of his life was his time served in the US Navy aboard the USS Lloyd Thomas. He shared many stories of his endeavors searching and locating aquatic explosives left over from World War II.
His greatest endeavor was to exercise his humanitarian works to improve the welfare of mankind by illuminating the ethical and moral teachings of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Simply put, his testimony was reflected in the song that he shared entitled, "If you Knew What I Know, You Would Praise His Holy Name."
