Carlos DeVaughan Callaham-Marshall, a beloved resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was called to eternal glory on November 12, 2024. Born on September 3, 1974, in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the cherished son of Julia McCoy Callaham Wharton and the late William Robert Callaham.
From an early age, Carlos's faith was encouraged at Saint John Baptist Church in Forest, Virginia, where he was baptized and began his spiritual journey. He attended Jefferson Forest High School in Forest, Virginia, and later, Hayfield High School in Alexandria, Virginia, where he discovered a deep passion for brick masonry—a craft that would shape his life and career. Carlos's dedication and expertise led him to become a Master Brick Mason, and his exceptional skill contributed to numerous significant construction projects across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the Tidewater region.
After high school, he furthered his education at Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach, VA before making the brave decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps.
He dedicated many years to his craft, working at Bat Masonry in Lynchburg, VA, and alongside his father at Callaham Masonry in Forest, VA. He was also the proud owner of Marshall Masonry in Baltimore, MD, where he honed his expertise and entrepreneurial spirit. Most recently, he embraced an exciting new opportunity at the Newport News Shipyard, eagerly looking forward to beginning this promising new chapter in his professional journey.
Carlos was an avid and devoted sports enthusiast whose passion embraced a wide array of disciplines. He had a deep unwavering loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys, following the team with the heart of a true fan. His love for sports extended to the thrill of car racing, the excitement of monster truck events, the strategy of baseball, and the elegance of tennis. Regardless of the season, Carlos found joy in every game, whether watching at home or sharing the experience with friends.
Carlos had a deep and unwavering love for children. Though his presence was sometimes distant he cherished not only their achievements and successes but the essence of who they were, and he never missed a chance to speak of them with glowing admiration. Though the currents of life often drew him away, his love was a constant and a main source of his fight to never give up. He leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and his deep affection, even in his absence.
He was predeceased by his father, William Robert Callaham; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Matilda Callaham; and maternal grandparents, William and Clara McCoy.
