Carletta Laverne Byrd-Pannell of 4 Blackberry Ct. Lynchburg, VA departed this life on Thursday, July 13, 2023. Born on March 3, 1970, she was preceded in death by her parents the late Audrey Lee Walthall Byrd, Cornell Van Byrd, Sr., and her birth father, Frank Boyd (Pike).

Carla was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend to many. Since early childhood she served the community doing what she loved the most, doing hair. She later went on to earn a certification in nursing assistance and a certification for medication technician where she was employed at Second Chance and Recovery. Carla was outspoken and known to speak her mind; however, to know her was to love her. Carla was of Christian faith and a child of God. She was crazy, fun to hang with, a great dancer, but most importantly, she had a heart of gold and will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Terrance Pannell, Sr.; her beloved children, Schquita Byrd of Lynchburg, VA, Jeff Payne (Kathleen) of Lynchburg, VA, Jameke Byrd (Brooke) of Madison Heights, VA, Eric McQueen, Jr. of Madison Heights, VA, Terron Pannell (stepson) of Lynchburg, VA, Lyric Pannell, and Terrance Pannell, Jr. both of Lynchburg, VA. Her siblings, Monica Byrd-Haskins, Cornell Byrd, Jr. (Latisha), Nicole Byrd, Orry Elliott, Shelita Elliott of Lynchburg, VA, and Monica Byrd of Charlotte, NC. Her grandchildren, Cassidy, Chloe, Serenity, Amari, and Kyree. Her aunts and uncles, Laverne Canada, Joseph Walthall (Kristen) of Murietta, CA, Velma Dark (David) of Washington, D.C., Deloris Savoy of MD, Mary Taylor, and Louis Boyd (Charlotte) of Fort Washington, MD, George Boyd of Oxon Hill, MD, James Boyd (Gracie) of Nathalie, VA, Wyatt Boyd of Naruna, VA, and Wesly Boyd (Deborah) of Lynchburg, VA; and fictive aunts, Valerie Woody, Valerie Organ, and Deloris McIvor. A host of close cousins including Holly Washington and Lora Miller. Carla also had a host of close friends who she considered family.

Please know although we could not recognize everyone individually, we know what Carla meant to each one of you and we are forever grateful!

A homegoing service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Prayer of Faith Temple. Interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery. Celebration of life will be held immediately following services at the YMCA located at 1120 12th St. Lynchburg, VA 24504.
