Carlesta Bucilla Brown Melvin,65, triumphantly departed this life at Lynchburg General Hospital and went home to her Savior on Monday, February 27, 2012. Born on October 27, 1946 in Lynchburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna Bell Brown and was preceded in death by one brother, James Cicero Brown. Carlesta was employed by Lynchburg City Schools for 16 years. She is survived by three loving children, George Melvin II, Holly Rodriguez (Enrique) and Corrie Melvin and seven grandchildren, Alicia, Christopher, Raina, Darius, Damari, Elijah, and Isla. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Muriel Mickles (George) and Denise Mason (James), one brother, Glenn Brown (Gwen) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lynchburg Dialysis Center and Dr. Ehtesham and Dr. Ashraf for their attentive and loving care during her extended illness.
The funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia with Rev. Dr. Carlton Jackson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7-8PM, Friday 2, 2012 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Service, located at 1016 Rivermont Ave. The cortege will assemble at the church.
