Obituary

Berda J. Mack entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2025, at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. She was the second child born to the late Thomas and Lula Anderson Mack. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Brooklyn Technical College, and Long Island University.

In Brooklyn, N.Y. she was employed as a registered nurse in various positions. Her most rewarding work was being a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a Public Health Nurse.

She was baptized at about age 12 and joined Wingfield Baptist Church. She was an active member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. After returning to Lynchburg she joined Rivermont Baptist Church and taught Sunday School, sang in the senior choir, was an Usher, and led the Health Services Ministry. Later she learned that God's work supersedes all. During her retirement, she gave up all of her earned titles for a simple one, Volunteer. Being a Volunteer and Bible study student filled her retirement days.

Her sister Elsie Mack Banks, and brothers, Thomas (Tommy), Leroy, Jesse, and Phillip Mack; favorite aunt, Daisy Anderson; and her foster sister, Reo James preceded her in death. Also her best friend, Mary J. Coleman.

Berda is survived by one son, Barry Hyppolite, and daughter-in-law, Sheila Hyppolite; sister, Emma Mack Wortham; grandchildren, Krysta and Jaxon Hyppolite, and Courtney Staton; great-grandchild, Asia Staton; nieces and nephews: Robin, Vanessa, Nicole, Sharon, Dawn, Kendall, James, Thomas, Brian, Leslie, Beverley, Jesse, Jessica, Rose; and devoted great nephew, Rick. Also left behind are sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Rivermont Baptist Church. Ms. Mack will be on view one hour prior to the service. Ms. Mack will also be on view from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
