After a brief illness on Sunday, July 16, 2017 God called home His precious child, Barbara L. Tweedy, a long-time resident of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Born on August 4, 1951 Barbara lived the first few years of her life in Lynchburg before relocating to Newark, New Jersey.  After graduating from Westside High School in 1969 Barbara moved back to Lynchburg where she remained until the time of her passing.

Barbara was always a hard working, very independent and strong willed person who touched many lives on her journey and would always say "it is what it is". Barbara never had any biological children, however, she stepped into the role as surrogate mother for her nieces Zakia and Tyria and her nephew Donnie Ward, (who lovingly called her momma) at some time during their lives.  What an influential caring woman!  When family could not handle trials and situations in their lives, Barbara stepped in.  She was Aunt Barbara to all whether related or not.  She was also the caregiver for her grandmother Willie B. Smith and grandfather Harry Smith, Sr. until their passing.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Thomas, of Newark, New Jersey; her father, Tyria Tweedy, of Washington, DC; a younger sibling, Arneatha Bernice Tweedy, of Lyncnburg.

She leaves to mourn her passing her brother, Ronnie Tweedy, of Lynchburg; sister, Kathy Tweedy, of Piscataway, New Jersey; two nieces, Tyria Tweedy, of Lynchburg and Zakia Tweedy, of Piscataway, New Jersey; nephew, Donnie (Casey) Ward, of Lynchburg and a host of other relatives and friends.

A very special thanks is given to cousins Annabelle Tweedy and Tracey Parker, both of Lynchburg, who provided loving care during her illness until the very end.
