Deaconess Barbara Alpine Wright Napier, 83, was called home on Saturday, January 22, 2022. She born May 02, 1938, to the union of Hiram Wright and Ceolia Cashwell Wright. Barbara was born in the Piney River area of Nelson County, Virginia. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas J. Napier; son, Thomas H. Napier; and grandson, Dexter N. Napier.

Barbara accepted Christ early in her childhood and joined the St. James Baptist Church. Upon her union to Thomas, Barbara joined the White Rock Baptist Church and was an active member up until her health began to fail. She sang on the church choir, served as choir secretary, Sunday school teacher and Deaconess. She loved God and her church. She always entered the church and greeted everyone with a warm smile. Barbara was a humble, caring, woman of few words.

Barbara enjoyed traveling to visit her children. She often drove to Northern Virginia, Richmond and Norfolk with only handwritten directions.

Barbara worked tirelessly in and outside the home. She retired from Central Virginia Training Center after 23 years. She ensured her family had food year round by canning and freezing vegetables and meats. Each year, she would make homemade souse and gingerbread for family to come by and taste. After retirement, Barbara would help Thomas with yardwork. Thomas would use the riding mower and Barbara would use the push mower.

She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Kenneth (Jacklyn) Napier, Sandra Napier and Karen (Derrick) Leak; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Coyle Napier; seven grandchildren, Derrick Napier, Kendra (Steven) Fonash, Kara (Tyler) Kauffman, Jennifer Napier, Dwayne Hall, Jr., Derrick (Simone) Leak, Jr. and Kyion Napier; six great-grandchildren, Camden, Emanuel, Bria, Derrick III, Lennox and Lexi; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Constance Henderson and Lois Napier; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, her church family and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held 11AM Sunday, January 30, 2022 at White Rock Baptist Church, Arrington. Mrs. Napier will be on view from 11-4 Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Masks are Required. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
