Obituary

Barbara Ann Miller Gentry, affectionately known by many as G, Red, Pig and Piggy Wiggy, was born on December 25, 1941, the oldest of four children born to the late Robert Jesse Miller, Sr. and the late Louise English Miller. She departed this life on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Barbara was married to the late George Harold Gentry. She was predeceased by her sister Loretta Miller Anderson, her brother Robert Jesse Miller, Jr., and a nephew Breon Malcolm Harvey.

She is survived by her sons, Gregory (Sheryl) Miller of the residence and Kelvin (Wanda) Miller of Montgomery, AL; granddaughters, Brandy (Phillip), Brooke and Joy of Lynchburg; grandson, Antonio (Krystal) of Montgomery, AL; sister, Deborah Miller (Lonny) Harvey of Lynchburg; devoted sister in-law, Yvette H. Miller of Lynchburg; aunt, Corrine M. Saunders of Fairfax, VA; uncle, Victor Miller (Anna) of Silver Spring, MD; devoted cousin, James A. Marshall of Lynchburg; special nephews and niece, Brian Anderson of Richmond, VA, Mychal Miller of Houston, TX, Avery Harvey of Lynchburg and Adrienne Miller of Durham, NC; 16 great-grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.

A life-long resident of the Lynchburg/Amherst County area, Barbara was educated in the public schools of Amherst County and graduated from Central High School. Being of strong faith, she was baptized at an early age at Lovingston Baptist Church in Madison Heights where she was a member of the choir and usher board for many years. She remained a faithful and active member there until her health began to decline. Recently, she affiliated with Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Madison Heights. She loved church and found much spiritual joy in the music and preaching at Mt. Sinai.

Pig was devoted to her children and grandchildren, but her great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a full time babysitter having provided day care (and often night care) for many of the great-grandchildren. Many hours were shared with them listening to gospel music and watching television game shows, soap operas and cartoons. She enjoyed being outdoors and greeted many neighbors from her porch. She was well known to all in the neighborhood.

Barbara looked forward to visiting her son and daughter in-law in Alabama annually and though she was very ill, she was able to fulfill that goal again in August of this year. After a hard fought battle through years of declining health, Barbara was with her son Kelvin in Alabama when she left her earthly home to rest in eternal peace with her Lord and Savior.
