On Sunday, February 7, 2016, God chose to call home one of his faithful & loyal servants, Beatrice Yvette Otey, and now she rests peacefully in His arms. She was known for her love of flowers, awesome photography and infectious smile. Yvette had a special way of making sure that all she came in contact with felt special and loved. Her amazing hugs let you know she genuinely cared. Yvette was born on April 17, 1966 to Samuel Louis Reeves Sr. & Eva Rebecca (Beck) Reeves Millender.
Yvette was educated in Dutchess County public schools, graduating from Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1984. Her accomplishments include being a 1988 graduate from Howard University, Washington, D.C., majoring in Psychology and graduating Magna Cum Laude, a 1996 graduate of Lynchburg College of Nursing, and a 2005 graduate of University of Phoenix, with a Masters of Science in Nursing. She was also enrolled in the Doctor of Nurse Practitioner Program of Radford University.
Her love of nursing was shown through her interactions, care and love for her patients & students. Yvette was employed by Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital, Avante at Lynchburg and Central Health for many years. She became an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Lynchburg College from August 2008 until May 2014 when she decided to return to Centra Health to serve and care for her patients again.
At an early age she professed her faith in Christ and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church, in Tarrytown NY, where she served faithfully until she relocated to Lynchburg, VA. She then joined the Sharon Baptist Church of Big Island, VA. She established the Media Ministry where she introduced Sharon Church to the social media world through Facebook, YouTube and creating the church website. She also spearheaded the Health and Photography ministries. She was an avid lip-syncer and LOVED praise & worship!!!!!
In addition to her parents, Samuel "Chicken" (Chong) & Beck (James), Yvette leaves to cherish her precious memory a faithful, caring, loyal, compassionate & loving husband of 27 years, Sammie, two adoring brothers, Samuel Louis Jr. "June" (Nancy)and Stephonne (Janina), both of Poughkeepsie, NY along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, in laws, nieces, nephews, friends & loved ones.
