Arthur St. Clair Laing, "Baron", was born May 14, 1936, in Freeport, New York to the late Lawrence Laing and Elmer Laing. He departed this life on Friday, November 25, 2022, after a brief illness.
He was educated through the Freeport, New York school system and graduated from Freeport High School. Arthur accepted Christ as his savior at Word of Life Ministries in Freeport, New York in the early 1990s and attended Lighthouse Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. He worked at various jobs including the John W. Dodd Junior High School in Freeport, New York, and Nassau BOCES in Carle Place, New York where he worked as a cooking instructor until he retired. He relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia where he enjoyed retirement with his wife, Louella, which he is preceded in death by. He had a love of cooking and preparing meals for family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Lawrence "Cisco" Laing, Charles Laing, Yvonne Laing Crumm Newsome, Richard Laing, and Adrienne Laing. He is survived by his brother, Bernard of Valley Stream, New York; daughters, Wanda Thornton (Phillip) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Alisa Foster of Lansing, Illinois, Cynthia Haywood of Roanoke, Virginia, and son, Arthur Glover of Clemmons, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren, David Conyers, Darryl Foster, Derrick Haywood, D'Von Foster, Jennifer Haywood, Kristina Conyers, Ayesha Haywood, Shamice Van Allen, Alexander Ford, Chelsea Ford, and Leah Reid; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will miss him dearly, and we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, December 04, 2022, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
