Annie F. Wheeler
1920 – 2016
"It is not how much we do,
But how much love we put in the doing.
It is not how much we give,
But how much love we put in the giving."
….Mother Teresa
Annie F. Wheeler, our beloved Mother and Aunt, slipped quietly into the realm of immortality at her home, on Friday, July 1, 2016. Her passage was as her living: majestic and giving, without complaint, accepting and believing that God's almighty power would not fail. Affectionately known as "Annie Maude," Annie was most distinguished by her warm smile and her quick wit responses.
Always a quiet and low-keyed person, Annie is most remembered for her years of hard work and dedication to family and friends. As a mother, sister, aunt and friend, she was always full of joy, and always extending herself as a helper and caregiver to family and friends. A gentle, refined and proud lady, Annie always showed love in ways that made people feel valued and cherished.
Born in Lynchburg VA, Annie remained an active and dedicated member of the White Rock Baptist Church until her health required relocation to Maryland, where she resided for many years. Despite her move to Maryland, Annie never lost contact with her extended family and friends in Lynchburg. She was known to be quite a telephone personality and kept current with all the news through her many contacts. Until recently, Annie read her daily devotions and the newspaper daily. From events in the news, she directed her daughter to follow up on anything of importance to her.
While in Maryland, Annie was the center of attention from family and caregivers. Always with a big smile, she often complimented her caretakers, while at the same time issuing directives with a big laugh.
She will always be remembered for the fun times and her smart quips offered during her care.
God strengthened Annie; He soothed her; wrapped her in His infinite love and showered her with blessings too numerous to count, and too magnificent to describe. She was loved, admired and continually gave to others. Still in her golden years and declining health, Annie would always tell you that she was living a happy, full and beautiful life.
Annie closes the chapter on yet another generation of (Francis) and we are left a legacy of love, compassion and caring. We have been richly blessed by our relationships with Annie; we have found great joy in the years of yesterday, and we will forever cherish our time with her.
At the marvelous age of 96, God has smiled from His Golden Throne and welcomed her home. She leaves treasured memories to her only daughter, Lima Wheeler-Evans and son-in-law, Ernest; a sister-in-law, Rena Lucille Francis; a loving caregiver, Hilma Brown and a devoted nephew, Alphonso Francis and a community of many other loving relatives and friends.
We are grateful for her life and know that tomorrows will start without her. Yet, because of her absolute love of life and unselfish giving, every time we think of her, we know that she is right here in our lives and will forever live in the hearts of all of us.
The celebration of her legacy will be on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at White Rock Baptist Church, Lynchburg with Rev. James Morris, officiating and Rev. Leonard Cardwell, eulogist. The interment will be in the New Vine Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends may view and family visitation will be from 1PM to 2PM Saturday, and the service will begin at 2:00 PM. Condolence may be sent to www.Davis-Turner.com. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
