December 15, 1939 – June 3, 2017
On June 3, 2017, God called Deaconess Annie B. "AB" Johnson from labor into eternal rest. Born December 15, 1939 in Bedford County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Deacon James and Deaconess Alberta Anderson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Harmon; twin brothers, Carlton and Charles and brothers, James (Lewis) and Roger.
Deaconess Johnson became a member of the Rivermont Baptist Church (RBC) at an early age and upon returning to Lynchburg in the late nineties, she resumed her membership at RBC where she served as Deaconess, member of the Mass Choir (director), Senior Choir, Culinary Ministry member, and actively participated in activities with the Youth and Senior Ministries. While living in Maryland, she joined the Interdenominational Church of God (ICOG) in Gaithersburg, MD where she served as choir director for the Intermediate Choir.
She was a graduate of the Dunbar High School Class of 1959 and the University of Lynchburg, then known as The Virginia Seminary & College. God gifted her with a remarkable voice which was discovered in church and especially at Virginia Seminary. She was a member of the college choir and traveled extensively with them and after graduation; she also toured with the well-renowned acapella choir, The Wings Over Jordan.
She leaves to mourn her, her husband of 56 years, Deacon Joe L. Johnson, Sr.; her son, Joe L. Johnson, Jr. (Malinda); her daughter, Deaconess Kimberly Frazier (Anthony); seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; five sisters, Corrine Fletcher, Collen Oliver (Lawrence), Betty Ford, Ann J. Bridges and Victoria Mayo (Major); one brother, Vincent Anderson (Sheila); two aunts, Deaconess Daisy Anderson and Florence Boyd; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Rivermont Baptist Church with Pastor, Rev. Byron J. Elliott, officiating. The interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery.
