IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Andrew Leroy
Hood, Jr.
July 20, 1955 – January 5, 2021
On Tuesday evening, January 5, 2021, at the age of 65, Andrew Leroy Hood, Jr., known to many as "Buddy", transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home. He was born on July 20, 1955, in Lynchburg, VA, to the late Andrew Leroy Hood, Sr. and Augustine Hunter Hood. He was the husband of Eunice Mickles Hood for 33 years. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Andrew Brady Hood.
He joined New Vine Baptist Church at the age of 12 where he enjoyed singing on the Junior Choir and playing "O Happy Day" on the piano. He sung with the Relatives Gospel Singers. He played the saxophone with the band, Soul Brothers Plus. He later joined Chapel Grove Baptist Church to be in fellowship with his wife where he worked as Scout Master with the Boy Scouts, sung with the Men's choir, and was an usher from 2003-2007.
Anyone that knew Buddy would agree that he lived life to its fullest even in his days of declining health. No one was a stranger to Buddy, he embraced all to spread joy. He had a contagious smile that went along with his conversation, stories, jokes and laughter. If you were in Buddy's presence, you were going to laugh and lookout if he had a mic! He was just a happy person that wanted to share happiness and joy to others. That was just one of his gifts from God.
Buddy was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Shared by many, he was a fan of the Washington football team and was wearing his Redskins tee shirt when he passed, still celebrating Washington's win against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was an outdoor person who loved camping and fishing. He was a graduate of Rustburg High School, Class of 1974, where he played Junior and Varsity Basketball. Buddy retired from Abbott Labs with perfect attendance and having received his certification in processing.
In addition to his loving and dedicated wife whom he affectionately called "M", he is survived by his daughter, Ashton Hood and grandson, William Hood-Biddle of the residence; sons, Cedric Marshall (Tammy) of Rustburg, Jonathan McDaniel of Lynchburg, Cordero McDaniel (Dekesha) of Temecula, CA; daughter, Yulithia Godley of Maryland; and 8 grandchildren.
He is also survived by his 5 sisters, Sheena H. Pugh (Melvin), Teressa M. Hood, Veronica H. Taylor (Minister Peyton), Valerie H. Smith (Tracy) and Doreatha H. Hayes (Richard, Jr.); aunts, Laura Anne McDaniel, Leona Hood, Sophia H. Suitt, Johnnie Hood; uncle, Eugene Hood, Jr.; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Larvonne M. Waterstraat, Phyllis M. Smith, Doris M. Elliott (James), Milton Mickles, Frank Mickles (Virginia), Fred Mickles, Roger Herndon; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, the Chapel Grove and New Vine Church families, and many friends.
