Althea Henley Lee
On Tuesday May 12, 2009 Althea Henley entered into eternal rest at Trinity Missions Health and Rehabilitations in Farmville VA. Althea was born in Amherst County on Dec. 3, 1913, to the late Lewis Douglas and Sophie Massie Douglas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Peyton Lee and daughter, Ollie H. Thomas and son, Thurman Henley; five sisters, Emma Higginbotham, Arlene Douglas, Zelia Sandidge, Annie Douglas and Ethel D. Carpenter; three brothers, Russell Douglas, John Douglas and Edward Douglas.
Althea was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess, devoted Choir Member and other auxiliaries. She was a former employee of Sweet Briar College.
She is survived by one son-in-law, John H. Thomas, Sr. and one daughter-in-law, Lennie Henley both of Amherst; Althea also leaves to cherish her memory, 13 grandchildren; 2 step daughters and one stepson and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday May 16, 2009 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Haynes, officiating and Rev. Charles W. Lewis as Eulogist. The interment will be in the Christian Aid Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 171 Washington St. Amherst. Expressions of condolence may be sent to www.Davis-Turner.com.
