Alice W. Diggs, "Grandma", departed this life on December 29, 2023. She was born on July 29, 1938, in Goochland County, VA. The daughter of the late David and Lois Winston. She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Stevenson.

Alice was a member of Greater Peaceful Zion Baptist Church; where she held the title of Church Clerk and Mother of the Church until her health started to decline. Alice loved her church and church family. She loved the Lord and believed that without him nothing was possible.

Alice would give you the world but was a "firecracker" at times. If she was hard on you, it was because she cared for you. She was deemed the "City Babysitter". There was not a parent in the city who worried about their children once they dropped them off with her. They knew she would take care of and discipline them when needed. Alice also worked as the school Crossing Guard for many years at Dunbar and R.S. Payne. She did not play about letting "her babies" cross that busy street. Alice considered all the children that passed through her house as "Family". We all have great memories of "Alice House" and will continue to laugh and talk about all the great times we had growing up and spending time with her.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sisters, Margaret Repass, Lucy Payne, Elizabeth Young, and Virginia Terrell; one brother, Alvin Winston; devoted granddaughters, Kennesha and Kennita Hopkins, and Kasia Pullen; devoted goddaughters, Diane Hopkins and Kimberly Blair; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends whom she greatly loved.

Alice has not left us she is now taking her much-needed rest. She will be missed, but we know she will ALWAYS be here with us. We have lost a jewel; she will never be forgotten. God needed a great babysitter to help him watch over all his children. Alice, you have finished your assignment, now it is time to REST. We love you Always and Forever….
